Vertical slats made from different materials are what gives the vertical blind its name. Common materials used are polyester fabrics and light metals.

These blinds do not wrap around a roller at the top of the window. Because of that, there is more variety in the materials that can be used as a heavier material wouldn’t wrap around a roller very well.
Roman blinds can help with energy efficiency as the thicker material helps to keep the warmth in the room and not escape by meeting the colder window.
One of the biggest downsides to roman blinds is the fact that they are made from material and therefore not suitable for damp environments such as the kitchen or bathroom.
